09/03/2024

On Thursday, March 21th, 2024  the International Society for Laboratory Hematology will host the second webinar in the 2024 e-Learning series: "Principles of Flow Cytometric Detection of Minimal/Measurable Residual Disease".

The webinar will be held by Brent Wood, MD, PhD, Director Clinical Immunology Laboratory, Children's Hospital Los Angeles, University of Southern California.

Overview

The detection of residual acute leukemia following therapy is the single most prognostic factor identified for the monitoring of patients with these disorders.
In North America, flow cytometry is the most commonly used technology for the detection of residual acute leukemia, although next generation sequencing is rapidly being incorporated into clinical practice. However, the detection of small abnormal populations of residual leukemic cells is more technically and interpretatively demanding than diagnostic evaluations.
In this talk, the principles of detection of minimal/measurable residual disease by flow cytometry will be discussed.

Learning Objectives:

1. Understand the importance of informative antibody combinations.

2. Be aware of the role of immunophenotypic instability in MRD detection.

3. Describe the benefits and limitations of flow cytometric MRD testing.

All webinars will begin promptly at 11:00 AM Eastern Time US (16:00 CET) and are approximately 50 minutes long. There is no charge to participate in the live webinar.
