Summary
Since 2001 the Regional Legionella Reference Laboratory of Campania (LRRL) has been doing many efforts to improve clinical and environmental surveillance for Legionnaire’s Disease (L.D.). In the last five years the number of L.D. cases reported has tenfold increased in our Region (5 in 2004 to 54 in 2008). We describe the experience and the results obtained by LRRL in these years by doing environmental investigations made after case notification. Key-words: Legionella, surveillance, control.
