Down’s syndrome is one of the commonest causes of congenital mental handicap. The first indicator used to identify pregnancies at high risk was maternal age.In the nearly two decades that have passed since, numeros variables have been identified that can be used to modify the maternal age-specific risk for Down’s syndrome. This variables include maternal serum biochemical tests and ultrasound markers for a first or second trimester screening.
