In spite of the wide sanitation improvement, the introduction of HBV vaccination for almost 20 years and the continued implementation of antiviral therapy, hepatitis virus infections continue to pose a significant clinical problem in Italy. The changes of the epidemiological features and of the clinical history of the disease as a result of increasingly sophisticated medical interventions have introduced new scenarios and new problems, as well as new diagnostic procedures.
