044 - HTA and Little Ticket Technology

Health Technology Assessment (HTA) is a broad assessment of the impact of a technology and is intended to include organizational, social, economic and ethical considerations. The concept of HTA, initially focused on engineering questions pertaining to technology safety, has blossomed into a multidimensional field that comprised also medical device, diagnostic systems for in vitro assays etc. Recently in Europe and in Italy was carried out relevant initiative to extend this new discipline with the realization of network oriented to translate HTA results into policy, management and practice decisions. Also laboratory medicine represent a significative chapter of HTA: we proposed some evaluation concerning the difficulties to realize experience in these field. Concerning HTA laboratory medicine is included in the chapter of little ticket technology. Were discussed some relevant experience regarding HTA and Laboratory Medicine concerning neonatal screening, preoperative tests and oral anticoagulation therapy. Finally is proposed an experience of mini-Health Technology Assessment in hospital.
