Hepatitis viruses are the most important etiological agents of liver disease worldwide and, consequently, are the main responsible for development of liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. A prompt and accurate diagnosis of viral infection is necessary to start a specific pharmacological treatment in order to prevent the liver diseases progression. Therefore, the current diagnostic methods - based on molecular biology techniques - are highly sensitive, standardized and reproducible on large scale allowing to detect, amplify, analyse and clone the viral nucleic acids.
