Background. Carbohydrate-deficient transferrin (CDT)
is considered a biochemical marker with diagnostic
sensitivity and specificity for regular high alcohol intake.
The aim of the present work was the comparison
between CDT index in males and CDT index in
females.
Methods. Serum samples from 110 subjects with different
alcohol consumption, declared in anonymous questionnaire,
have been analyzed with HPLC/UV with
validated method using commercial kit ClinRep® Recipe
for determination of CDT.
Results and conclusions. The variables analyzed have been
correlated and reported in graphics; the means of
CDT’s population was 0,68%, con S.D. 0,291, variance
0,08, median 0,65, VC 42,78; the CDT’s mean has
resulted 0,65% in males and 0,79% in females.
The females in this study have a major CDT than the
males. The correlations between CDT, ALT, age, weight
and the knowledge of the real alcohol intake confirms
the utility of the CDT index to discrimination
abuse from moderate use of alcohol.
