The PCNA antigen.

The proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) is predominantly
expressed by proliferating cells with increased production
in the late G1 to S phase. PCNA plays an essential
role in DNA replication and repair. Autoantibodies to
PCNA are mainly detected in patients with systemic lupus
erythematosus, but not exclusive to this disease. However,
in patients with SLE, they have a prognostic value for neurological
and renal involvement and they strictly correlate
with the disease course.
